Sensual Astrology: Sagittarius Season Celestial Guidance + Horoscopes

Sagittarius Season wants to take us on a journey, whether that is an imaginal escapade through our minds or a more literal journey to places of wonder and magic.

We can often see astrology as perpetuating lofty ideals and transcendent archetypes. To tell you the truth – and truth is the theme of every Sagittarius season – there is something to celebrate about aspiration being a balm for desperation. But to lean into only the intellectual, ideological, and quantitative aspects of Astrology strips it of embodiment, heart, and soul. That’s part of why I call my practice Sensual Astrology, a “decadent, erotic, sensory-focused mythopoeic aspect of astrology, where we feel it visceral and embodied.”

Go deeper into my definition of Sensual Astrology on the Scorpio Season write-up.

Sagittarius Season takes us into our place of faith, belief, and hope. This is horizon work: looking out beyond the spacious barrenness of the leafless treetops and being able to see the sky in a different way. To observe the flight of the geese, the gray storm clouds rolling in, even the enhanced brightness of the sun without the buffer of foliage.

Sagittarius Season wants to take us on a journey, whether that is an imaginal escapade through our minds or a more literal journey to places of wonder and magic. Sagittarius energy calls in the energy archetypes of expansiveness, insight, and adventure. Before the winter lures us into our caverns to stay warm, Sagittarius Season throws a party where any reality is possible, and anything possible can be fun.

Sagittarius is a mutable fire sign that is ruled by Jupiter. After being magnetized into the space of darkness and desire that is Scorpio, Sagittarius represents the liberated Soul. Traditionally, Sagittarius is represented by the image of a centaur, probably Chiron, pointing an arrow at the heart of the Scorpio constellation. But if one of Scorpio’s archetypes is the Phoenix rising from the ashes, I’d like to imagine that Sagittarius could also be the Dragon – a wise and ancient creature with a belly full of fire (fire sign) that flies through the air (mutable sign), but can also curl itself around the great treasures of the Universe.

Sagittarians are philosophical misfit mystics, always in search of the truth. They are luminous, argumentative, and relentlessly real, positive and purposeful, and encouraged by both challenge and inquiry. During Sagittarius season, we thrive when we follow our own wisdom and guidance – when we question the reality offered to us – but we also find the bright side of things despite the looming winter darkness.

As you will discover during every astro season, I'll go through each week of Sagittarius Season and uncover a sensory-based message from the stars. Remember, your five senses are touch, taste, sight, sound, and feeling. Then there's the most powerful of the senses, but also the invisible one — intuition or sensing. One of the favorites of Sagittarius Season? Vision.

All dates and times are PDT.

The Jester is performing a one-clown show, and we’re afraid this play is about us.

Nov 28: Sun in Sagittarius square Lilith in Virgo
Naysayers beware, toxic positivity is coming at you with weapons of love and light.

The dragon has come out to stretch its wings and is unhappy with the villagers. Some astrologers call the North Node – which is being activated quite a bit this week – the head of the dragon. Many consider the pineal gland within the head the Seat of Consciousness; there has been collective wisdom and an integrated path forward that we have all been fighting to take because, well, we’re… exhausted. Disappointed. Afraid to believe again in the inherent goodness of others. All of this, combined with a somewhat chaotic Full Moon in Gemini, the communication center of consciousness itself, and hypercritical and snarky Lilith in Virgo being challenged by the Sun, means miscommunication, disillusionment, self-criticism, and bizarre relationship interactions. According to the art of Sensual Astrology and Mars entering Sagittarius, our best path forward is to… run. Use your legs to create action, to inspire you to move when the adrenaline is stuck in the tender and hurting places. Get it flowing and try to stay out of the trap of the mind, especially when the Mercury Rx shadow period begins!

Dec 5: Venus in Scorpio trines Saturn in Pisces
After drinking each other’s blood, we’re getting married.

Venus is our inner value system: where do we find pleasure and purpose, desire and decadence, eros, and abundance? Lilith is the pissed-off version of this – the fertility mixed with war, an ancient primordial version of Venus that is both more true and whole. Venus and Lilith are highly activated this week, dancing with the big bad daddies of Pluto and Saturn and quarreling with Venus’ lover, Mars. While the chaos is less erratic, this week is about “relationship recovery.” Primarily, the relationship with yourself and your rage. Is there a part of yourself that you’ve kept hidden to keep things copacetic? That part of yourself will be pushing against the boundaries imposed – societally or self-inflicted. By the end of the week, a transformation takes place, and what you can commit to in relationships feels solidified.

I believe that sarcastic bombshells with black cat energy are our future.

Dec 9: Venus in Scorpio opposition Jupiter in Taurus
Opulence, sensualism, and hedonism are on the menu.

Dec 10: Venus in Scorpio sextile Lilith in Virgo
Take charge, take your time, and take what you like – the world is yours.

Dec 11: Mercury in Capricorn sextile Venus in Scorpio
A nightclub that is also an erotic bookclub? Can someone invent this?

Dec 12 at 3:31 p.m.: New Moon in Sagittarius at 20’39 degrees
Wisdom comes not from flashes of inspiration, but from dedication and patience.

Dec 12: Mercury Rx in Capricorn
Are your habits helping you to evolve, or holding you down?

Mercury goes Retrograde in Capricorn this week right as the Moon hides behind the creative, generative shadow of the New Moon in Sagittarius. This is not a period to fear, but to be steady, succinct, and meticulous. Most of all, hold your integrity and be truthful. Mercury Rx periods can be a great boon to writers, speakers, and thinkers: in Capricorn, it can speak to an evolution of your thinking, a great maturing. Conversely, we as a collective may find ourselves rejecting the messages of authority figures or trying to work outside of structured systems. If this all sounds familiar, Capricorn is Saturn-ruled, meaning that Capricorn's work happens over many years – Saturn is the lord of time and karma. This also might mean that you have to deal with your karma. I define karma as habits, not bad or good luck. What sort of habits do you need to lean back into? Hint: Capricorn rules the bones, so anything related to teeth or strength training could be an excellent place to start.

Sagittarius Week: Dec 13 - Dec 19

Don’t say it if it’s not nice.

Dec 15: Mars in Sagittarius trine Chiron in Aries
Have you ever thought of investing in some chain mail?

Dec 16: Sun in Sagittarius square Neptune in Pisces
Expand your mind before you start tripping out.

Dec 18: Mercury Rx in Capricorn trine Jupiter in Taurus
You’re all business, and that’s hot, honestly.

Do you remember December 7th and 9th? It was just last week. We are already seeing the results of the Mercury Rx in Capricorn. Topics that we thought were done last week have returned to have us do our due diligence. Thankfully, these are positive aspects (trine), so we are getting a second chance to redo something in our favor. The energy this week is very earthy and very material. Think digging your hands in the dirt earthy, baking a pie earthy, molding a sculpture out of clay earthy, and even figuring out your financial plans earthy. There is a special message in Mercury Rx – that your “material” life is as essential to work on as your “mystical” life.

Sense of The Week: Feeling

Back to the drawing board.

Sagittarius season ends with a Mercury Rx reminder – getting the things that you want takes time and effort, but it doesn’t have to be boring. We are preparing for the ancient celebration of light, the Winter Solstice. In many cultures, the Solstice is a time of decadence, feasting, and remembering. Remembering the time when the light poured down and blessed us with richness and fecundity. It is a reminder that lighter days are ahead after the shortest and darkest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. In my ancient lineage of Assyrian-Babylonian ancestry, Capricorn season heralds the beginning of life. Humans are as close to the heavens as we will ever be during this time. While we are still in Mercury Rx and coming to terms with our practical lives (Capricorn) as much as our inherent sense of hope (Sagittarius), the cosmos still recommends that we greet the new season with revelry and remembrance. To call forth all of our once-upon-a-time dreams and try to rebuild them. Did you want to write a book? This is the time to restart. Learn how to sew? Take a class. Capricorn Season is about seeing things through and not giving up on yourself.

Dec 21 at 7:28pm: Sun enters Capricorn/Winter Solstice
